This is the most pleasant
surprise of late '99: Ex-BETTIE SERVEERT's drummer goes solo ( I mean:
SOLO, he really does everything on this album ! ) and delivers no less
than a new classic piece of contemporary psychedelia.
Try to imagine a light version
of late FLAMING LIPS/ MERCURY REV meeting CORNELIUS in TODD RUNDGREN's
basement and you'll get a rough - yet not so bad - idea of what it's
all about. Lovingly crafted melodies that make you feel like a soap
bubble, slightly lopsided arrangements, stunning ear-tickling sonic
tricks. Not forgetting the warm, seductive voice of Berend Dubbe (Aka
BAUER) delivering his strange, surrealistic lyrics.
You'd be at a loss to find
a single weak track on this album, and any attempt to say which songs
are the best is therefore doomed to failure. One day you'll have a soft
spot for the gentle I'm starting a war with dolphins (featuring
good old Flipper on backing-vocals) or the wonderful T.V is 2000
years old which brings a subdued and perfect ending to the album.
Another day, you'll prefer the krautrock extravaganza of I'm no prototype
or the cheerful and sprightly Miniature Dave, unless it's the
mad synthesizers of Clusters of Edinburgh ....
On the Move makes you feel
better. It irresistibly brings a smile on your face, and makes you gaze
at the world with empathy. More records of this kind for the 2000's
please!
